For more information please contact Ben Darden at [Register to View] or via email at [Register to View] JOB SNAP SHOT Location: VA Boston located at/near Boston, MA Hours/Shifts: 8:00-4:30, Monday – Friday REQUIREMENTS: • All Ophthalmic Technicians will have one of the following active certifications from the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO): o Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) o Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) o Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) • All Ophthalmic Technicians will have a minimum of twelve (12) months experience. • All Ophthalmic Technicians must be available to provide coverage from 8:00AM to 4:30PM Monday-Friday. At least 2 references for similar work performed within the past 2 years: Name, phone, and email QUALIFICATIONS: Must have at least 1 year of experience. Must have sufficient knowledge of ocular anatomy and neuroanatomy to be able to interpret test results for accuracy and reliability. Must be able to recognize the need for additional testing or select appropriate testing methods to obtain desired results. Must have one of the following active certifications: Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) Must be a U.S. Citizen. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with regulations. TYPE OF WORK: The Ophthalmic Technician obtains a thorough ocular and medical history from the adult to older adult patient and performs the following components of entrance examinations if warranted. • Patient History: History of Present Illness (HPI); Past Medical History (PMH); medications in use; and medication allergies. Also interviews for strabismus, amblyopia, patching therapy, eyeglass/contact lens use, and trauma. • Visual Acuity Testing: use of projected charts (Reichert Clear Chart 2), near vision cards, color vision, Potential Acuity Meter (PAM); and Brightness Acuity testing (BAT). • Pupils: notes anatomical size and shape; notes direct and indirect reactivity; and detection of afferent defects. • Visual Fields: Amsler grid, confrontation, tangent and Humphrey Field Analyzers. • Keratometry: manual and automatic • Ocular Motility: cover/uncover testing for phoria/tropias; detection of gaze restrictions. • Pachymetry: standard DGH pachymeters • Refractometry: photopter use (“plus” cylinder in Ophthalmology, “minus” cylinder in Optometry) and autorefractors. • Tonometry: Goldman Applanation tonometer , Tonosafe, and Tonopen. • Biometry: “A” scan and “B” scan; knowledgeable regarding sources of error in biometry, intraocular lens power calculations. • Surgical Assisting: minor surgical procedures, intravitreal injections, and laser procedures. • Ophthalmic Imaging: such as Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), Pentacam, and Slitlamp photography. • Other: special testing within the scope of Ophthalmic Technician practice as designated by the section chief.
