JOB REQUIREMENTS Scope of Work: Daily calibrations to the Jaeger System that includes the Plethysmograph, diffusion gases and spirometers (a portable spirometer only needs calibration on an “as needed" basis). Actual pulmonary function tests including spirometry (with bronchodilator if needed), Maximum Volume Ventilation (MVV), Lung Volumes and Single Breath Carbon Monoxide Lung Diffusion (DLCO SB). Simple pulse oximetry and 6-minute walk tests to evaluate oxygen need if requested. Other specialized pulmonary function tests including studies of lung compliance, respiratory center O₂ and CO₂ sensitivity, right to left shunts, inhalation challenge, breathing exercise, blood bases, and ventilation tests. Arterial blood gas draws and Methacholine Challenge testing. Completes consults by related codes for procedures following testing of patients. Documents in the patient’s Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) any adverse reactions, disposition of patient if testing was not performed, or problems associated with testing. Records and charts all tests into CPRS and then submits all completed records and charts to VA Pulmonary Function Laboratory (PFL) supervisor daily. Trouble shoots and cleanses equipment prior to patient testing. Projects a generally enthusiastic and professional attitude when assisting patients and co-workers with routine questions, in person or on the phone. Prepares reports with statements of quality of measurements as established by the American Thoracic Society criteria, the presence of adverse reactions during testing, and any other pertinent information. Qualifications: Must have at least 3 years of specialized Pulmonary Function Technician/Testing experience in a hospital setting demonstrating competence performing High Altitude Simulation testing, Cardiopulmonary Exercise testing and Exercise Induced Bronchoconstriction testing is required. Must have completed a formal program associated with pulmonary function and testing from an accredited institution of higher learning. Recognition by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) for completion of Certified Respiratory Technician/Registered Respiratory Technician (CRT/RRT) and/or Certified Pulmonary Function Technician/Registered Pulmonary Function Technician (CPFT/RPFT) is preferred. Contractor personnel shall have familiarity with the theory as well as the practical aspects of all commonly applied techniques, measurements, calibrations, hygiene and quality control supplementing knowledge of lung physiology and pathology. Current BLS Certification is required. In addition, ACLS Certification is preferred. Must be proficient in written and spoken English. Must be knowledgeable in the use of reproducibility standards established by American Thoracic Society/European Respiratory Society (ATS/ERS) criteria. Must be computer literate.
